Our mission of providing Christ-centered recovery services in Baldwin County is realized through the loyal work of staff, donors, and volunteers with a shared purpose: faithfully serving the needs of their community. Pouring into your community is one of the most tangible ways of living out the gospel calling. Through it, you’ll find that you have not only changed your community for the better–but also yourself.

Volunteering is one of the greatest ways of blessing our ministry efforts. Through the gracious gifts of your time and talents, you are helping us to provide life-transforming addiction recovery programs to those who need the hope of Christ.

Looking to get started? Here are a few simple ways you can come alongside us in our vital ministry work.

1. Bringing a Meal

Hope often starts with a full plate. We don’t charge our residents for any of the services we provide. We cover the costs for food, housing, hygiene items, clothing, and much more. Feeding the residents in our programs eats up the majority of our costs, so any donated meal is a major blessing.

Bringing a meal is simple. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy and can be as straightforward as what you would already make for yourself. By either cooking or ordering a meal and bringing it to our Foley, AL, recovery centers, you are helping us to continue providing essential recovery services. Our greatest need is for Sunday afternoon meals, but we are grateful for each and every meal provided.

You can sign up to provide a meal once or recurrently–or inquire for more details–by filling out our quick contact form.

2. Donating Items to Our Thrift Shops

Our thrift stores are one of our primary funding sources for Big Fish Ministries. Both Big Fish Thrift Shop locations are located in Foley, AL, and rely upon the donations of gracious donors (like yourself!) Our thrift stores exist to provide affordable clothing and goods to our Gulf Shores community, equip Big Fish program graduates with jobs, and fund our Christ-centered addiction recovery programs.

We accept gently-used items such as clothing, housewares, furniture, and more. Simply bring your donated goods to either Foley location between our normal operating hours, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday.

When you donate to our thrift stores, not only are you purging your closet, you are also helping us restore addicted and other broken people through Christ-centered healing and transformation. Check out our complete guide to learn more about the history and mission of Big Fish Thrift Shops.

3. Helping Staff Events

We are always on the lookout for help staffing our events and fundraisers throughout the year. Some of our events include our annual 5k & Fun Run, Overdose Awareness Day, Big Fish Ministries Gala, and more. By volunteering or becoming a sponsor for one of our events, you get to witness the transformation and hope of our ministries in real-time.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming volunteer opportunities on our Events page, or contact us with other ideas for filling a need. We always welcome volunteers and will find the perfect fit for your unique giftings and talents.

4. Volunteering at Our Thrift Shops

Can’t get enough of our thrift store deals? Why not get the inside scoop on our selection and volunteer at our Big Fish Thrift Shops!

Volunteers are essential to the operations of our two locations. When you volunteer at our thrift stores, you get the opportunity to connect with those within your local community and form relationships. You also get to be a part of something bigger: the hopeful, life-changing work of Christ which is behind everything we do at Big Fish.

5. Praying for Our Recovery Ministries

While volunteering may be the backbone of our ministry, prayer is the heart of it. Whether you are able to devote your time to volunteering or donating goods, please consider praying for Big Fish Ministries. Pray that hearts are changed by the gospel and lives are turned around for Christ. Pray for an end to addiction in Baldwin County and beyond. Pray for our ministry work to be sustained and effective in its purpose. Pray for hope to fill every heart, and for men and women to achieve lasting freedom from addiction.

Prayer has a real impact, and we are so grateful for the prayers of our Big Fish community. They are cherished and valuable to our ministry’s success.

Change Starts With You

Volunteering is not only good for your community; it’s good for your heart. If you are looking for a way to serve your Baldwin County community and live out your faith, we would be so thankful for you to donate your time (or gently-used items) to our ministry.

Change starts with you, and every small act of service makes a difference for the Kingdom. Please consider getting involved by volunteering, donating gently-used goods to our thrift stores, or bringing a meal to our recovery centers. Partnering with us in prayer and service makes an eternal impact on the lives–and hearts–of recovering men and women.
