For over 10 years, Big Fish Ministries has remained committed to our mission of offering Christ-centered addiction recovery services to men and women in Alabama—at no cost to our residents.
Everything we do is centered around Jesus because we believe He is the way to lasting freedom, hope, and new life. According to a 2019 PubMed study, faith-based recovery programs account for 73% of U.S. addiction treatment centers, and 84% of people who participate in those programs find it helpful.
As part of our mission of bringing freedom in Christ, we believe Christ-centered addiction recovery is not only a valuable avenue for meeting physical needs but also for profound spiritual and emotional transformation.
If you have been fighting addiction alone, it’s never too late to get help. We are here to walk with you every step of the way to recovery.
We have outlined some frequently asked questions about Big Fish Ministries, our addiction recovery programs, and what makes Christ-centered recovery truly unique.
Where are your addiction recovery programs located?
Our residential addiction recovery programs are based in Foley, AL, in South Baldwin County.
Why faith-based addiction recovery?
Big Fish Ministries began over 10 years ago with a call from the Lord to Baldwin County. Our Founder & Executive Director, Isaac Stooksberry, came from a background of addiction and found his life transformed by the gospel at a Christian addiction recovery program. Our name, Big Fish Ministries, grew out of the story of Jonah, a man who found life-altering transformation in the belly of the big fish.
We believe the gospel is the key to breaking the cycle of addiction and living a life that is completely transformed. From our inception to today, we have remained true to our mission of helping men and women achieve true freedom from addiction through Christ.

How are faith-based addiction recovery programs different from secular addiction recovery programs?
While both Christian recovery programs and secular recovery programs share a common goal of addiction recovery, they differ when it comes to their deeper purpose and methodology.
Secular addiction recovery programs rely upon a clinical, psychological framework and emphasize individual empowerment. There is not a religious or spiritual component to treatment, but rather, an emphasis on the ability of the self–through the support of the group–to free him or herself from addiction.
Faith-centered addiction recovery programs combine evidence-based treatment methods with a faith component. They seek to not merely empower the self, but offer him or her a sustainable support system that is bigger than the individual. By delving into the root of the issue, Christian recovery offers real transformation that trickles into every area of life.

What should I expect when entering your faith-based addiction recovery programs?
When you enter our men’s and women’s recovery programs, you can expect to become part of a supportive, Christian community. During our long-term programs, we supply a safe, stable environment where our residents can gain normalcy in their routine and accountability for their recovery journey. We provide free housing, meals, hygiene items, and other essentials. Through individual and group counseling, recovery classes for addictions and mental health issues, educational assistance, legal advocacy, and comprehensive treatment plans, we prioritize the physical and spiritual health of our residents. Our programs are also unique in that we equip our residents for life outside of our programs. We offer life-skills training and help our residents to gain employment at our Big Fish Thrift Shops, so they can enter society again with confidence. We focus on biblical truth every step of recovery through the incorporation of Bible studies, worship, and one-on-one mentoring—so that every individual can find the source of healing in Christ.
Does Christian addiction recovery actually work?
Don’t just trust us—trust the statistics. Compare faith-based addiction recovery’s success rate (40-60%) to that of secular addiction recovery programs (8-12%). Over 300 individuals have graduated from our programs and live independent, addiction-free lives.
